Santa Monica and Venice Beach, LA ~ Sans the Nikon

“Thank you to all the men and women who serve and protect our country, and their families that support them. Share our message to help honor those who serve.”

~ President Bill Clinton, May 27, 2013

It’s easy to take the beach for granted when you live so close to it. Today, we honoured Memorial Day with a walk from Santa Monica to Venice Beach, and back again. The endless sunshine, a jovial crowd, a glorious ocean; kites, volleyball, and picnics – I wouldn’t have changed anything about the day. It was perfect.

  1. Yeah! My FAVOURITE part of LA, it brings back so many wonderful memories! Thanks so much for these beautiful photos, it’s freezing and raining in Brisbane so just what I needed πŸ™‚

    • It is a favourite drink at Urth Caffe. You can make it at home – all you need is green matcha powder, soy milk, and a little agave/sugar. (And a cappuccino maker but you can improvise with warm milk :)) Thank you!

    • Oh no! Sending sunshine your way through these images Gabriele. The weather is pretty erratic all over the world. I am happy you liked these and will take the Nikon with me on a trip to venice beach soon! Thank you!

    • That’s a wonderful compliment about the beach images looking Hockneyish – must be those blue blue skies. Glad to share the Santa Monica sun with you – no shortage of it here today. Thank you!

  2. Marina what a beautiful day in Santa Monica @ the beach, yup that’s California you captured it beautifully with your little camera…….. Here in San Clemente, the beach was packed. Since Sunday night I could smell all the campfires @ my house coming from the campground close by. One of the wonderful smells of summer!!! I just saw that we both follow the same wonderful blog of Food, Photography & France…… yeah Food and Photography is some kind of passion. Well some day I will make it up to L.A. to get together…… in June I will travel to Germany for my brother’s wedding and also go to Italy for while in Tuscany…. I am so blessed … and my photography heart will go to burst over there….. Happy LA summer to you

    • Dear Cornelia, you are so right – the wonderful smells of summer! How wonderful that you’ll be in Germany and Italy so soon. Your photographer’s eye will be so pleased!!! Happy summer Cornelia!

  3. Looks like a wonderful day Marina! The blue colour of the Ocean is amazing! I can’t wait to meet Pacific next year πŸ™‚ That green tea latte looks so yum, I’ll have to sniff around and see if we have something like this here πŸ™‚

    • Thanks so much! The flag photo turned out even with sun in my eye πŸ˜‰ That’s the tough thing with the phone photos – it’s hard to see the screen. The beach is just gorgeous this time of year – enjoy!
