Happy New Year Wishes ~ An Autobiographical Post

I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, but I find that a good quote sgive me the perspective that I need.

Closer towards the end of this year, I started this blog so that I could share stories about what I love to do most: travel. Along the way, my husband bought me a camera. And with that, another passion was born. The gift is as much about learning a new art as it is about cultivating patience.

Capturing everyday moments in NY is so much fun. Near Radio City Music Hall

Writing and photography have brought me a lot of joy over the past couple of months — I didn’t realise how much until I started compiling photo-essays and sharing them with others. In turn, I am so grateful to the supportive blogosphere and the talented authors and photographers of inspiring posts.

Whether armed with a list of resolutions or not, I hope the following quotes will inspire you for the New Year. All photographs, except those credited to Antony Schuster, are my own.

Wishing you all a very safe, healthy, and wonderful 2012!

  1. Another inspirational post Marina, I have enjoyed travelling with you, via your posts. I suspect 2012, will be another superb adventure.
Happy New Year Marina, to you and yours.

  2. Wow, check out those pretzels! That seems so NY, lol. Another great post Marina, love the photo’s to bits, and those quotes are simply perfect. Superb all round. I sincerely hope that you’re going to have a fantastic year, and that photography will continue to bring you so much joy.

    • Thanks JP!! Glad you liked the post – it was fun going though quotes and photos to find a pattern. The pretzels are huge and I bought one recently, as I hadn’t indulged in one in a long time. Very good and salty! Best wishes to you for a wonderful 2012.

  3. Fantastic post Marina, very inspirational! I particularly like Brookes’ quote – ‘I took sometime out for life’ – wow! So many times we forget to stop and enjoy what we have, life can be way too busy.
Have a fantastic new year’s eve and all the best for 2012!

    • My pleasure – I loved stumbling upon them as they all have such different meanings! I am in unison: The TS Eliot one is probably my favourite of them all. And the Anais Nin definitely speaks volumes for my experiences in 2011 especially! Thank you for your comment and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

      • Interesting that you should ask as I thought about the same thing immediately after I posted my comment. While I like both quotes, I was referring to the one about the journey. Maybe because I have no plans to settle anywhere and I can’t really focus on the arrival.

      • I do like that quote, though I was referring to the other one! Some quotes mean more to us than others at different times in our lives. That’s why I love them so much! Hope you’re ready to rock 2012!

  4. Tremendous quotes to reflect upon in this new year and such fitting images as well. Bravo!

It was fun to have a glimpse into your wedding photo album too – what a gorgeous setting in Sydney!

Wishing you and your husband a splendid 2012!

    • Thank you Tricia! It was fun to curate! Our wedding photographer was fantastic as he was such a character and had a great style! I owe him big time! Happy New Year to you and I look forward to the adventures (and accompanying photos) you and your husband undertake in 2012. Happy New Year!!

  5. Marina thank you for all your beautiful inspiration. I have loved “traveling” with you through your camera lens and thoughtful words and am looking forward to more wonderful posts in 2012.
Thank you for all your kind feedback. Cheers! 🙂

  7. The photo taken in the Guggenheim Museum (“Love on display”) is so nice. 🙂
Hope to keep discovering NY through your posts, thank you!

  8. A wonderful blog! As always 🙂 The pictures are amazing! I especially love the Golden Horn Bridge and your wedding day photos 😀 Lovely 🙂 I don’t usually make resolutions, it’s important to develop what I started and keep doing things I love 😉 Happy New Year!!! 😀

    • Thanks Kristina! did you mean the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fran? On our wedding day, it had been raining in Sydney for days before and on the day – SUN! It made for easier photography conditions 🙂 I agree with your take on resolutions – great attitude! Happy New Year!
